Artist Statement
My art ranges between semi-abstract and abstract painting. Inspiration comes from landscapes, experiences and emotions as well as from artwork which I like and made a deep impression on me. I also enjoy figurative painting.
Often I have a certain colour palette in mind and a rough composition idea to start with. Both can change completely over the painting process. Especially at the beginning I try to paint as spontaneously and intuitively as possible to spread paint over the canvas with rapid movements.
It creates colour patches with great density as well as delicate transparency. I use thick brushes or fine soft brushes, the palette knife and scratching tools.
I am very interested in the strenghth/power of colour. I want to provoke the unexpected, ruptures, surprising turnings. Sometimes I use the nondominant hand leading to more awkward, rougher marks which can remind of cave paintings. The marks created by the brush bristles, colour you can taste …
Then a radical brush stroke leads to a very new direction and layer by layer something emerges. A moment I can enjoy and in which I feel very much alive. These moments I am looking for in painting.
I am a seeker on my path towards finding my very own expression.
